To avoid the worst of the heat we went down to Ifield Mill Pond mid-morning. I think that was a wasted theory! The temperature was already 27°C and feeling too hot 🔥 🥵.
We noticed a coot chick on its own calling out for its parent. The adult bird soon appeared out of the bank bushes to feed the poor thing!
Next, and the main reason for coming was to see the cygnets. They were just gently bobbing around on the water while the adult was enjoying a test on the bank.
A lovely sight to see. I'm glad that two of them have survived this long and they do look healthy so the prospect is good for these two.
Conditions are very dry at the moment and there was no water flowing over the weir at all. The lagoon was covered in debris from the trees here which makes it look a mess 😆. All natural of course! 🙄
