There's nothing like a bike ride in spring! But there is one drawback here in England with our climate. When we have a prolonged wet winter season, the ground is still saturated and takes time to dry out. So, a ride out in the countryside tracks and forests can be rather sticky. So today was no different!
Here, two views in both directions show one of the wet tracks. This was not too bad, but the next pictures are a different story!
Again, taken in both directions, showing how bad it was. There was no way I could cycle here!
I cycled further today, trying to increase the distance 😅. My Garmin watch recorded the whole thing, and reported that I had overstretched myself. 🤣.
A distance of 16.45 miles today. Hilly and hard going in places, so a good workout.
The first half of this ride was easy though, taking tarmac minor roads or hard single track. There is a lovely downhill on this route, a narrow road so you need to keep your eyes peeled for cars coming up the other way!
It was a nice warm spring day, actually perfect for cycling. It can get too hot in mid summer. There was a strong smell of bluebells in some places, which are everywhere at this time of year.
The last climb of the day is in the last picture! 😂
