After that strange night, Pierre couldn’t stop thinking about that grave—and above all, how something like that could have happened. Besides, it all began right after the black cat appeared, which is why Pierre finally made a decision. The following night, before midnight, he returned to the cemetery once again with his violin. The place was dark; the trees were growing increasingly dry, and some branches were brushing against the headstones, producing faint sounds that made Pierre constantly look around. However, when he reached the spot where he always played, he felt a strange sensation, as if someone were watching him.
He took a breath, set up his bench, picked up his violin, but before playing, he looked around and was terrified, because on the first night he had seen the headstones clearly, and now there were five open graves. Pierre felt a chill run through his whole body, since this was no longer normal. He approached the graves and noticed that the dirt had been pushed to one side as if someone had dug it up; however, there were no footprints, nor any signs that anyone had used tools.
In the midst of his despair, he heard a meow again, and it turned out that the black cat was once more perched on one of the headstones. It stood still, its eyes shining brighter than usual. Pierre said aloud, “It was you who was here that night, wasn’t it?” The cat simply shifted and began walking among the graves, and this time the young man followed its lead. After walking for a few seconds, they stopped in front of one of the five open graves.
Pierre looked inside, and strangely, there was nothing there—it was completely empty. Fear was beginning to take hold of him, but at that very moment, there was another Crack—another gravestone had broken. Pierre was so startled that he dropped the flashlight, and its beam illuminated the far end of the cemetery. Strangely, a shadow appeared among the trees, seeming to walk slowly among the graves.
The shadow disappeared, and now Pierre couldn't stop thinking about it, so he went back to where his things were, and the cat stared at the violin as if it wanted to say something. Pierre was trembling, but he still got ready to play the first song. Just as he was about to play the second song, he heard a sound coming from the open graves. Pierre stopped playing, and the sound stopped too. For a few seconds, he thought about going home, but when he played the song again, the sound returned—and that’s when he realized those graves hadn’t opened by accident. He stood up, and from the very depths of the cemetery, a violin melody could be heard—and this time, Pierre wasn’t the one playing.
