Movies based on real events that took place many years ago give us the chance to see them as a film lasting several minutes, so that we realize that, day after day, things happen that leave their mark on society and will always be remembered. That’s why we have Cronos—a film in which the director seeks to capture the essence of what happened in the hours following the 2017 attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils. I wasn’t familiar with those events, so it was fascinating to see how they transformed that entire tragedy into an action movie filled with explosions and spectacular chases, keeping the genre alive and leaving us eager to find out what will happen next.
Las películas que están basadas en hechos reales de cosas que pasaron hacen muchos años tener la oportunidad de verlos como una película de varios minutos es para que uno se dé cuenta de que día tras días van pasando cosas que marcan a la sociedad y siempre serán recordadas. Por eso llega Cronos, donde aquí el director lo que busca es mantener esa esencia de lo que ocurrió en las horas posteriores a los atentados de Barcelona y Cambrils de 2017, siendo que yo no conocía y ver cómo convirtieron toda esa tragedia en una película de acción llena de explosiones y persecuciones espectaculares, haciendo que se mantengan el género activo y llevarnos a descubrir que pasará.
From the very first second of the movie, you can sense that things aren’t going to go well at all, and there’s this tension—where much of society is going about its normal daily lives, with people out on the streets. However, the most important thing here is that time is ticking away, and every clue changes the entire dynamic, which is the most thrilling part of the movie. Furthermore, one of the things that makes it work—and keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat—is that time isn’t just passing; it becomes the greatest enemy for each of the police officers on the scene. This leads us to wonder: Will they be able to identify the suspect? Is the enemy right beside us, and we don’t even know it? And many other questions, since a single mistake could affect an entire city.
Here, too, everything changes; every scene conveys something, and at the same time, the film’s greatest strength is that behind a police investigation there are people—each officer grappling with fear, exhaustion, and doubts—who must press on even when the situation overwhelms them, simply because it’s their job. That’s when you realize that human beings get tired and frustrated when things don’t go as planned—it’s an internal struggle—while at the same time having to accept all the consequences that this problem leaves in the city: victims, traumatized families, and many questions with no simple answers.
La película desde el primer segundo se puede sentir que las cosas no saldrán nada bien y está esa tensión, donde gran parte de la sociedad está viviendo su día a día normal, personas en la calle, sin embargo, aquí lo más importante es que el tiempo correr y cada pista hace que todo el juego cambie, siendo lo más emocionante de la película. Además, una de las cosas que hace que funcione y uno como espectador se mantenga atento es que el tiempo no solo avanza, si no será el enemigo más grande para cada uno de los agentes de policía que están allí y eso nos lleva a preguntarnos ¿Podrán descubrir al sospechoso? ¿Tenemos al enemigo al lado y no lo sabemos? Y muchas otras cosas, puesto que un error afectará a todo una ciudad.
También aquí todo cambia, cada escena refleja algo y a la vez el mayor fuerte de la película es que detrás de una investigación policial hay personas, donde cada policía presenta miedo, cansancio, dudas y que deben seguir adelante aunque la situación los supere, por el mismo hecho de ser su trabajo. Es allí donde uno se da cuenta de que el ser humano se cansa y se frustra si no salen las cosas como son, siendo una batalla interna y a la vez aceptar cada una de las consecuencias que deja todo ese problema en la ciudad como víctimas, familias traumatizadas y muchas preguntas que no tienen una respuesta sencilla.
That’s why this movie, Cronos, works so well—it’s entertaining, and at the same time, the simplicity of each scene makes you, as a viewer, feel like you’re right there in the middle of the disaster, in a city with thousands of people, wondering who the good guy and who the bad guy will turn out to be. Therefore, seeing this kind of event brought to the screen can be very painful and emotional, since it will surely bring back very bad memories for many people of what happened that year in that city.
Por eso esta película de Cronos funciona muy bien, es entretenida y a la vez la sencillez de cada escena hace que uno como espectador sintiera que está allí en medio del desastre, además una ciudad como miles de personas que uno sabe quién será el bueno o malo de todo eso. Por lo tanto, que lleguen a las pantallas este tipo de acontecimientos, puede llegar a ser muy dolorosos, emocional, ya que seguramente a muchas personas le traerá recuerdos muy malos de que lo paso ese año en dicha ciudad.
