In order to move forward in life, in order to attain the goals we wish and desire and become successful, growth is essential. You can say it's inevitable and non-negotiable. Without growth, a person remains where they are. This is why even for biological growth that we don't ultimately determine, we still have a role to play to ensure that growth occurs well. Growth is needed and important for every being.
As highlighted, growth doesn't just happen. There's an effort that needs to be put in place, especially for the kind of growth that depends on one's effort and intentionality. To grow in life goes beyond biology; it touches personal development and every other aspect of life that a person needs to put in intentional effort. Growth then doesn't happen by mistake. It has to be deliberate, intentional and yes, it's uncomfortable.
Growth involves discipline which isn't a palatable experience. It involves going out of one's comfort zone into something demanding, enduring, unpleasant and uncomfortable. The quest for growth comes with discomfort. It's not a question of whether it's uncomfortable. It's actually uncomfortable. This is because it denies you the comfort and ease you desire, and it takes you on a journey that's the opposite of that.
The process of growth isn't a likeable experience, the results however otherwise. Admirable even, but the work towards it is what many tend to avoid. So while people see a result and admire it, they have to understand that it took growth to reach there, which required uncomfortable dealings, experiences and processes. Perhaps, we can say that if growth doesn't touch one's comfort in one way or another, then they aren't really growing.
It could be one's time, relationships/associations, pleasures, entertainment and so on. People might not be willing to deny themselves any of these as the demand may be, yet want the results they see that come from that. Growth is about moving into a higher stage or level, and you can't do that if you aren't prepared or working towards it. The desire to grow is simple; the effort is uncomfortable and can be terrifying, but the result is certainly appealing and worth it.
