When it comes to school in particular, friends and perhaps study partners are a must. You can't really go through school and do it all by yourself. Even if one might claim so, some of the momentum and encouragement to do a task, assignment, practical or project was the effort of a good friend. Or study partner as the case may be.
This is why our stories of academic success are not without wonderful friends involved in the picture. Friends are a vital part of life and humanity that even school can't deny. Some of these friendships have evolved beyond what started as perhaps coursemates, study partners into something of a lifetime.
However, we don't just pick anyone and everyone as a friend. For me at least. The law of magnetism postulates that positive and negative attract while positive-positive or negative-negative diverge. When it comes to friendship, it's the other way, especially in the school setting. You need someone who shares the same values as you or those which you appreciate.
When it came to friendship, it was serious as it could get. Not everyone was a friend, though we talked. It's something I think we need to realise and not mistake. For me, a friend has to be most importantly a person who is God-fearing. It sets the basis. This is to ensure that we consensually have God as a priority and avoid issues or disagreements as a result.
That makes the basic quality, but not limited to it though. Life is too precious to be wasted on the things that don't matter or that even destroy. That's why this is a major quality I count. This shows in how they carried out their academics and other aspects of life while schooling. We should be able to encourage each other to become the best in life and in our academics.
Positive values are also there. Thankfully, I've had friends who were these and more; I only listed some. These friends helped me in my academics with cash, kind words, encouragement, care and support and vice versa. I didn't do much of the study partner thing. Nevertheless, I can't deny how useful it is. The main reason many scaled through in their academics was because of study partners.
There were times however that I had to do some studying with some friends or learning some stuff for our design project. I can attest to how useful it was. And because the people were selective of me, I didn't have issues with them. The issue lay with group projects. On one hand, I liked group projects but on the other, I didn't.
I liked it because it helps build collaboration skills to work together. The other side was that some; many don't take it seriously, leaving a few to suffer with it annuling the collaboration skill that should be gained. The greater result that should be achieved from minds working together doesn't get actualised. That's the issue with it. Aside from that, it's a good thing and study partners are great.
