In Nigeria, the National Youth Service Corps is compulsory for a graduate of any tertiary institution both home and abroad to undergo before he/she can be fully recognised as a graduate. As a graduate, you have to undergo this compulsory one year service to the country. During this one year, you will be deployed to any state in the country to work. The government will pay a stipend every month and if you're lucky enough, you get some extra cash from the organisation where you work. Normally, you are deployed to a state you are not familiar with and then you are forced to make new friends and familiarise yourself.
I graduated from school last year October and till now I've not gone for this compulsory service. This delay is holding me back from making real life decisions that will usher me into the next phase of my life. In other words, I'm stuck. I'm here, just like my classmates, waiting for when the University will finally give us the go ahead but we are scared that we might stay at home longer than we expected. This wait is really tiring and exhausting. I just hope something positive will be done soon concerning this situation. I need my life back on track.
