Tomorrow, which is the 9th day in the month of March is going to be the day when Nigerians in the different 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are supposed to elect for themselves governors of their choice from the plethora of choices they would be faced with.
Last weekend was the first part of the election. Nigerians went out enmasse to vote for who they deemed fit to be their President. What started out peaceful without any rancour ended up being bloody. So many people were killed and some were manhandled buy political thugs at their polling units. It's either you vote their candidates or risk get beaten to a pulp. Human Rights thrown out the window.
It ended up being an unfree and unfair election. Though after three solid days of counting the votes and a winner being announced, Nigerians swallowed the outcome with a pinch of salt. What can we do when what we wanted is not what we got? If it was something that was purchased, we could try to return it but unfortunately, this comes with no return policy. In other words, we are stuck with this fate for the next 4 years.
I thought, hoped and prayed that this second part of the election would at least be better than the first due to the fact that we must have learnt from the experience of the first part. But no! It has even started out worse. So what then do we do?
Anyways, whatever the outcome will be, we will also take it with a pinch of salt and accept our fates because, with all sincerity and talking realistically, due to the high level of corruption we face in this country, all efforts at fighting against the undesired election results will prove futile and abortive.
So we will brace ourselves and prepare our minds, souls and bodies to be able to take whatever and continue to live.
