When I hear the words "free shopping", my mind instantly goes to Mr. Beast, an example of how the modern world is so heavily influenced by technology and TikTok. Recently, a friend and I were discussing how people often forget where they heard quotes from, attributing them to the subsequent video or post that referenced it instead. The same can be said for shopping- individuals often see trends on YouTube or TikTok then buy what they saw without hesitation. Just like everyone else, I am guilty of this too - as a Harry Potter fan, when I laid eyes on a wand that shoots fire I wanted it right away - regardless of its practicality. Still, we must put things into perspective and ask ourselves if we are buying something for ourselves or someone else. Furthermore, one should consider if they would rather make themselves happy or make someone else happy - let me give you example - your wife wants Chinese food and you want pizza, but you only have money for one. What will you choose? These questions must be pondered before making decisions! All in all, if given the opportunity to pick a single store to shop 5 minutes for free at it would definitely have to be a toy store. After seeing first-hand what conditions are like in orphanages, I want to buy supplies and toys for them even if I only have 5 minutes.
When I was younger, I remember always having a toy or coloring book to play with. Whether it was at home, school, or even on vacation, I always had something to keep me occupied. As I grew older and started learning about the world around me, I began to realize that not every child is as fortunate as I was. There are millions of orphans around the world who don't have access to the simple things we take for granted - like toys and coloring books.
That's why I decided to start buying toys and coloring books for orphanages - for National Children's Day in Bulgaria. It's my small way of making a difference in the lives of these children. I know that it won't solve all their problems, but hopefully it can bring them a little bit of joy during what is often a difficult time in their lives.
I've even started donating some of my son old toys before coming to Netherlands. Seeing the joy on their faces when they get something new always fills me with happiness, and I know that I'm doing my part to make a difference.
It's amazing what a small act of kindness can do to brighten someone else's day. That's why I will continue to buy toys and coloring books for orphanages in the future - knowing that I can bring a bit of light into the lives of vulnerable kids around the world. Despite all the hate I get for it, I'll keep doing it, even on the other side of the world.
Let our children not grow up in a terrible world. Together we can make it better. It is our destiny to
suffer from the past, to long for the future, but to forget the present.
