Chapter I.6 - Leaving everything behind

During the preparation time the friction between Jacob and Captain Miles began, I remember that once during the lunch line, Miles was behind me, bothering me as always, Jacob approached us and noticed my discomfort.

"Hi Dana, how are you?" he greeted me.

"I've been better," I unconsciously looked up at the captain and my eyes made a circular motion, "I'm fine Jacob, and how are you?

"Well, well, let me know if you have a problem" Jacob stared at the Captain "no matter what it is or who is involved, I will defend you at any cost".

"I suppose Miss Dwitt is very well protected," interrupted Miles. "I am also willing to defend her, like every member of my crew, from any threat, friend or enemy."

Jacob was upset, the vein in his forehead was about to explode, I took him by the arm stopping him from what he could do.

"Thanks a lot, both of you, I just hope I don't need as much protection when we're in space," I smiled nervously, but managed to end the uncomfortable situation.

The week of preparation went by very quickly, the team was almost perfectly coupled and soon we were ready to board the exploration ship.

When the day of takeoff arrived, I was very nervous, the panic took hold of me for a moment, Jacob placed his hand on my shoulder, giving me encouragement.

I took a deep breath, not only for myself, but also for my Mother who had always been proud of me, now that pride would be worth it, also to show my father that I was capable of being more than I should be and also, for Annie, finally one of the two would achieve the dream of going to explore the universe. My fears dissipated like the fog before the sunlight, I felt safe, I knew Annie would always be with me.

Everything was ready, the command center was assembled on the bridge and the rest of the crew in the main hall, the memories passed in a fast race in front of my eyes and without realizing it I was already in space, far from Terra VI, far from Black Town.
