Saludos hivers, espero se encuentren todos muy bien. Yo de nuevo escribiendo en mi espacio de hive, luego de un tiempo sin publicar. Y es que hive siempre ha sido mi zona de escape, donde puedo escribir lo que siento para dejarlo plasmado y que otros quizás puedan disfrutar de mi contenido.

En muchas ocasiones de nuestra vida, nos toca reinventar constantemente para poder adaptarnos a determinadas situaciones, o sencillamente para salir de nuestra zona segura o de confort. Y parece mentira que a veces realizando acciones que aparentemente son insignificantes, pueden adaptarse perfectamente a todo nuestro mundo, terminando de ser una especie de motivo inspirador para todos los demás roles de nuestra vida.

On many occasions in our lives, we have to constantly reinvent ourselves in order to adapt to certain situations, or simply to step outside our safe or comfort zone. And it seems incredible that sometimes, by doing things that are seemingly insignificant, we can adapt perfectly to our whole world, ultimately becoming a source of inspiration for all the other roles in our lives.

Tengo 14 años usando Software Libre, pero en todo ese tiempo, siempre he utilizado distribuciones basadas en debian. Recuerdo brevemente haber tenido en mi pc principal Open Suse, por que estéticamente me gustaba mucho, sin embargo siempre terminaba con otra distro derivada de debian, como Ubuntu nuestra distro Canaima o las derivadas de Ubuntu como Linux Mint,Ubuntu Mate en su momento, en fin siempre me he mantenido en esta rama de debian.

I have been using Free Software for 14 years, but in all that time, I have always used Debian-based distributions. Mi vieja tableta pc, de la marca venezolana Vit, fue sin duda con la que mas experimente instalando sistemas operativos, incluyendo hasta el mismo Windows, que en ocasiones tenia que usar algunos programas que solo corrían en ella y eso que era un equipo con especificaciones limitadas. Sin embargo, a mediados del año pasado, mi tableta dejo de funcionar definitivamente y me toco entonces comprar una de estas laptos baratas que ofrecen en el mercado. Al poco tiempo de terminada la garantía( fue de 6 meses) el equipo empezó a mostrar mas lentitud de lo habitual y el propio sistema operativo ya también molestaba mucho, así que decidí cambiarlo. Aquí la cosa empezó a ponerse difícil, por que a pesar de la variedad de gnu-linux que existen, no todas son reconocidas por la bios modificadas en estas chromebook, encontrándome sin embargo, con la distribución Gallium Os basada en Xubuntu y que sin duda mostraba la mejor compatibilidad con las chromebook. Sin embargo había un problema: esta distribución se quedo desatendida y sin soporte por el desarrollador o una comunidad que la asumiera.

Shortly after the warranty expired (it was six months), the device began to run slower than usual, and the operating system itself was also very annoying, so I decided to change it. Descubriendo todo esto, decido instalar Xubuntu, en su ultima versión LTS 24.04 mostrando buenos resultados, pero ya aquí, las propias limitaciones de la Chromebook, empezaron a pasar factura, ya que esta tiene apenas una capacidad de almacenamiento de 16 gb y aunque alternaba con una microsd que me vino y el uso de otra distribución ligera llamada puppy linux, aun no me sentía completamente cómodo hasta que increíblemente, ambas distribuciones dejaron de arrancar en mi chromebook.

Discovering all this, I decided to install Xubuntu, in its latest LTS 24.04 version, which showed good results, but here, the limitations of the Chromebook itself began to take their toll, as it has a storage capacity of only 16 GB, and although I alternated between a microSD card that came with it and the use of another lightweight distribution called Puppy Linux, I still didn't feel completely comfortable until, incredibly, both distributions stopped booting on my Chromebook.

Pero no me iba a dejar vencer para tener un Sistema que me permitiera usar lo básico en mi portátil, y entonces es allí donde decidí de salir de mi zona de confort en linux y busque que otros sistemas ligeros podía encontrar, hasta que me encuentro una, que aunque no se caracteriza por ser ligera, si muestra una estabilidad y rigidez. Alli decido, por que ya la conocia por referencia, instalar Manjaro con entorno de escritorio xfce.

But I wasn't going to give up on finding a system that would allow me to use the basics on my laptop, so that's when I decided to step outside my comfort zone with Linux and look for other lightweight systems, until I found one that, although not particularly lightweight, was stable and robust. I decided, because I already knew it by reference, to install Manjaro with the xfce desktop environment.

He quedado impresionado con esta distribución que esta respaldada por estar basada en Arch linux, pero marcando su propio estilo y ritmo. Esta distribución es rolling release, lo que siempre estará actualizándose y en verdad me ha impresionado su reconocimiento del software y lo poderoso de su administrador de programas Pamac o sus comandos por terminal por medio de pacman. Sin embargo, siento que esta distribución no necesita estar usando el terminal para todo. Y es que los Sistemas Linux, deben ser así, por que ningún usuario promedio, esta usando en windows el cmd para todo. Las acciones son por interfaces gráficas que el usuario al final agradece.

I am impressed with this distribution, which is backed by Arch Linux but has its own style and pace. This distribution is rolling release, which means it will always be updating, and I am truly impressed by its software recognition and the power of its Pamac program manager and its terminal commands through pacman. However, I feel that this distribution does not need to use the terminal for everything. Linux systems should be like this, because no average user uses cmd for everything in Windows. Actions are performed through graphical interfaces, which users ultimately appreciate.

Y el cambio ha sido completo, por que también hemos decidido darle una oportunidad a la suite ofimática OnlyOffice que me ha sorprendido su casi totalidad de compatibilidad con los archivos creados de la suite office, manteniendo lo que hiciste en esos archivos creados inicialmente en Word, Excel y Power Point. Por años he usado Libreoffice y hemos visto su evolución, siendo una excelente suite ofimática, pero en esa variedad que tenemos en el mundo Gnu-Linux siempre andamos indagando y conociendo nuevos paquetes y programas.

And the change has been complete, because we have also decided to give the OnlyOffice office suite a try, which has surprised me with its almost total compatibility with files created in the Office suite, maintaining what you did in those files initially created in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I have used LibreOffice for years and have seen its evolution. It is an excellent office suite, but with the variety we have in the Gnu-Linux world, we are always exploring and learning about new packages and programs.
