Another day, another moment on the Linux and Free Software world.
Today was the second day of the hackathons, BoF and workshops on the world of KDE and inform the community their challenges and goals and how much have they put to fix or improve the project.
As I explained before, KDE is not only the desktop, but almost 200 applications including Media players, video editors, painting software and whole bunch of applications solutions divided to Education, Games, personal information managers, IDE, etc.
Each team had their list of goals and challenges to implement and improve. This made quite interesting going into interesting places of technology.
KDE main language is C++ and for many developers including myself is quite challenge to learn. The syntax is confusing and could be verbose and messy. So seeing so many devs under one roof coding was a quite impressive group.
One of the big topics this day was the use and use case of activities. Activities is a feature of Plasma to encapsulate your desktop in a certain way that captures the relevance of a specific project. Having your relevant documents and solutions to the front.
However the relative low use and communication there has been on the use with competing features like Virtual desktop has many gets a fairly way of using it or find it too confusing to use it at all.
