I thought I'd have a little trip out over to the peak district today. I wasn't hoping for many if any good shots due to the blanket of cloud that seemed to cover the entirety of Yorkshire & Derbyshire, but I pushed myself and thought if anything, it will do me good.
I went to visit the parents first thing, then I headed out, I decided after much deliberation to go to Bamford Edge, as I'd not been for a couple of years, and to me, the view from here is my favourite of all peak district locations, and even when the weather is bad, it's a beautiful view.
The sun kept teasing as I walked up to my location, I managed to get parked just below the public footpath, heading up the hill, it's one of those steeper than it looks hills, or at least it feels it, I'd not walked too far from the car and I needed a minute, maybe it's because I admit, I am a bit unfit, but it could also be because the camera bag I was carrying weighs about a stone and a half, not sure what this is in pounds, but when you need to get fit, all the extra weight soon adds up.
Avoiding the Meadow Muffins (it's sheep shit, but I prefer my name), I clambered up to the top, bumping into a bloke in his late 60's, who was like a spring chicken on the hills, I couldn't believe it lol.
I finally got to my location, the sun still teasing me as if it's going to break out through the clouds at any minute, but all I got was patches of light over an endless landscape.
I sat looking over the water, and saw something, not sure where it came from, but a plane flying over the reservoir, which is apt as the reservoirs around here were used for practice runs on the Dam Busters missions back in World War 2.
After having half hour sat admiring the view, I decided to walk a bit further, I wasn't expecting much as I was at the peak of the hill, however, I found that further down, there's a much better view of the reservoir and even better, less people. It does get busy up here, even on a Wednesday, I wouldn't even try to attempt it at the weekends.
Sun rays and light patches over Hope Valley, nothing much to this shot, but I do like it.
I love how the slews gates are shaped like little boats, this may look insignificant, but it's certainly holding back a hell of a lot of water.
One from the camera this time, and I really do love this view.
Right over the valley, I could see this lone tree on the brow of a hill, so I got the big lens out (probably why everything was so heavy), and took this shot, I think I need to go back when I have my tripod with me, and better skies, also, I wish that white van was parked somewhere else as well lol.
however, what I do love about this shot is that the road behind is Winnats Pass, coming up from Castleton, definitely a place that I'll be photographing shortly.
Well that's it from me tonight, I really hope you've liked my adventures from today, and most of all, I really hope you've all liked the shots.
Thanks for reading my blog.
All the best :-)
