My first adventure of 2023 was a little late coming due to me having a chest infection, it wasn't covid thankfully, but it did knock me out for over a week, I am on the mend now and I think my little adventure did me a world of good.
I headed out to one of my favourite locations, the peak district, as I drove over the smile on my face when I got there, it was like meeting an old friend, a long time coming, as it seems like forever since I last visited here.
My first stop was Burbage North, I had the intentions of visiting a few places, all within the vicinity of here, I parked in the free carpark and walked over, travelling light, as I only had my mobile and my drone with me, I entered onto the moors, walking down the path.
There was a fog in the distance and when I took the drone up, it was really strange as the sky was completely clear and then a thick line of fog above the land, one of my friends came up with a good analogy stating that it's "Heaven meeting earth!".
After a little wonder, I headed over to Stanage Edge, which is one of my favourite places and I still need to walk the length of the edge.
As you can see from the above image, it goes on for a few miles, with beautiful views of the peak district, including Mam Tor and other great places to visit, I could see that Mam Tor was above the fog, but I knew that by the time I'd get there and get up the mountain, I would have missed the conditions that I like.
I then headed over to Higger Tor.
One of my favourite places as it's straight off the main road, so you don't have to walk far to get on top of hear, however, in reality, it's much bigger than it looks on the photos, if you zoom in, you can see the odd person on the Tor.
I love the above shot, the three peaks you can see are (nearest first), Karl Wark, Higger Tor and in the distance you can see Stanage Edge.
I like how the entire landscape looks so vast, although you are literally 10 minutes from civilisation, but I like that isolated feeling that the picture gives.
Heading back, I decided to head over Strines Moor, I stopped at Ladybower to see how much water was back in the reservoir, as if you look back on my previous posts, you'll see we were having a drought over here in the UK, the water company said that the reservoirs would take two years to fill up, I was told a couple of weeks ago that the water was overflowing down the two plug-holes at one end of the reservoir, sadly when I got there, this wasn't the case this week, however, it's certainly not taken two years to fill up, as you can see...
Seeing as I couldn't get the shot I wanted, I decided not to bother taking the drone up, although there are signs around the reservoir stating no drones, I can still fly over if I don't take off from the water companies land.
It was beautiful light all day, I do love these winter days for light, but heading back over the moor, it became really really nice light, so stopped the car again, and took the drone out again, I did get through 4 batteries on this day.
Overall it was a successful day, I did me really good getting out, and the good thing is, next week, I have a weeks holiday from work, so hoping for more adventures and hopefully, more photography to come.
