Since I've got older I seem to have garnered an interest in history, I never showed that much interest at school, but as I've got older it seems to get my imagination working.
As people who read my blog know that there is a field at the end of my back garden, sadly this has been sold to a developer to build houses on, however yesterday I learned they are now doing an excavation in the field for Roman ruins.
This morning I managed to get the drone up and shot a few uninspiring shots lol. However, it's very early in the excavation and I really do hope they find something there, I'm hoping for a Roman villa with mosaic floor still intact etc, but really I don't know if they will find anything.
My old town of Rotherham has a history of Roman settlements, the biggest being Templeborough, which is now full of buildings (used to be lots of Steelworks down there), Scholes wood has an old Roman fort in there (although you can't really see anything just strange mounds in the ground), as well as plenty of other roman roads etc.
Fingers crossed that due to the ancient Roman activity in the area there will be something, and hopefully it will be too important to build houses on there, as this was greenbelt land that was re-designated and sold off to build on. This isn't the only part of greenbelt land that the council have sold off either.
I await with baited breath for any finds they may have, I'm kind of excited about this dig lol.
Thanks ever so much for reading my blog, the main image is a shot I did of the Colosseum in Rome on my visit back in 2015.
Thanks again and all the best :-)
