I went for a little stroll today, to a local village called Whiston, in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. I will be moving there later in the year, but I thought I would acquaint myself with the area.
I met up with my girlfriend for our weekly social distancing walk, and she took me around the village, it was nice to walk around as not many folk about, and those that were, gladly, stuck to social distancing rules.
I took my camera as I'd been wanting to photograph the church for a while, even though the light wasn't too good, I thought, I've not used my camera properly as yet, so I need to get to grips with it.
So, my Sony A7iii, with the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 (manual) lens fitted, I started taking shots, now I am still trying to familiarise myself with everything on the camera, as I am / was a Canon shooter, so, I was looking through the view finder, and I'm thinking to myself, I'm sure things should be wider than what I am getting with this lens. Anyhow, I'd forgot that I'd popped the camera in 35mm mode while shooting the moon and forgot to switch it back, I only realised that was the case when I got home and, remembered lol.
So, we are walking around the church grounds and my girlfriend pointed out a grave, that looked like it said "witch" on it, the grave is very very old, and even I thought that, so I'm like, I need to take some shots of this.
My girlfriend then went on to tell me stories of when she was a kid, having to walk up to the church etc, and stories of the witches grave.
I was so excited to get home and post a picture of it, sadly, on closer inspection the word "witch" is actually "Wife", but with the font and age of the gravestone, on first glimpses it does look like witch, so I was a bit gutted about that too lol.
Walking out of the churchyard, we came accross some old village stocks, I am presuming by the date on the pillar, these stocks date back to 1786, it doesn't sound too long ago, but we have to remember that thinks were very very different back then, the village was just a hamlet, I can only imagine what it must have been like to have your head and arms in these for the village to ridicule you.

The two pictures of the church were taken on my Sony A7iii, the light was very poor, so I decided to do a HDR shot, and these are the results.
I hope you've like my post today, and I hope I can get to grips with this Sony camera in the not too distant future, if not, I'm going back to Canon lol.
