On January 6th 2022 I felt inspired to start a Robot Building Contest. This is just for fun, but I have already set aside 30 HBD for prizes, and I am going to build a robot too. The rules are pretty simple,
It must be a Robot. It must function properly. And it must not destroy humans.
You must post your entry to the original contest post before December 15th 2022.
So what can you do? Almost anything you want, as long as you try to build a robot.
I found this open source Robot project called Poppy and have begun to print the parts.
I am working in Unreal Engine these days, so I converted the STL files and imported them into a Character Blueprint. While I wait for the parts to come out, I need to take some time to think about each piece and how they are assembled. There are a lot of gears and other electronics that are needed, so at this time I am fundraising for about $650 but have now raised it to $1241 CAD.
I actually need to raise a lot more than this to take my ideas to their greatest potential, but for now getting the print done is most important. All of these parts need to be printed layer by layer and once they are complete I will have to assemble it with the proper bolts, motors and gears.
One of the main instructions on the contest post is to
"Make a post (or a few) about how you built your robot"
So this is post #3 for me.

Constructing the Character Blueprint for Poppy in my virtual studio.
I will be clear, I did not create this design,
but I am fabricating and assembling it.
Not much of this process is going to be 'easy' but I like a challenge.
I would like to give Poppy free range around the studio, helping out with things when we go home. He can give guided tours to visitors and show off his painting skills. He will be most useful when given complex tasks, and we can leave him to complete it. Yes, I am just imagining the possibilities.
Want to be a sponsor? Send 30 HBD to @leoball .
Your username will be promoted in future contest posts

If others want to offer a few HBD the prize pool will grow!
