In my 28 years of life I can't count how many times I have heard some stranger tell me, "Smile, its beautiful!" Admittedly at times hearing such can throw me off but at the same time I know my face is one of many unspoken words.
Growing up I didn't smile much at all and if I did it was the fakest smile ever. Smiling didn't feel natural so I would force my teeth to come together to imitate what I thought a smile should look like. Looking back I don't like any of my childhood photos because I either wasn't smiling or had a fake smile.
I realized that growing up I was out of touch with my feelings, very nonchalant and apathetic at times. This was a defensive mechanism to shield me but it only hindered me. In the past 10 years I have been doing all I can to get in touch with my feelings so I can know myself better. So these days I smile a lot more and its natural.. not a force, just a bright smile to show my appreciation for life.
Getting closer to God and learning all about love and what is has to offer has caused me to appreciate the simpler things and not take the large things for granted. Life may never go as we expect it, but at the end of the day we are living and breathing which always equips us with more opportunities to strive for our goals and dreams. Each struggle is a lesson and each failure brings us closer to a success!
A simple smile can not only brighten your day but also the day of the onlooker. @Jsmilez has a beautiful smile that has uplifted me many times just by seeing him smile. A smile is a reflection of joy, peace, happiness, appreciation, etc... so when your day is going well, look within to a happy moment and smile. If you can't look within then look to someone else.. smiling is very infectious so make sure to get your daily dose ;)
