My name is Daniela Gutierrez, I was born on August 18, 1997 and I am currently 26 years old. I was born in Venezuela in a small town called San Felipe, but I have been living in Colombia for 4 years. I like music and I don't have a favorite musical genre, I listen to a little bit of everything. My favorite artist for quite some time is Bruno Mars; I find his lyrics very deep. His first songs I listened to were "Lazy Song" and "Grenade", since then I became a big fan of his unique lyrics.
Mi nombre es Daniela Gutiérrez, nací el 18 de agosto de 1997 y actualmente tengo 26 años. Nací en Venezuela en una pequeña ciudad llamada San Felipe, pero vivo en Colombia desde hace 4 años. Me gusta la música y no tengo un género musical favorito, escucho un poco de todo. Mi artista favorito desde hace bastante tiempo es Bruno Mars; sus letras me parecen muy profundas. Sus primeras canciones que escuché fueron "Lazy Song" y "Grenade", desde entonces me volví bastante fan de sus letras tan únicas.
In October 2019, I went to live in Colombia due to the situation in the country, which was a real challenge for me as I moved away from my family and friends to start over in another country where I did not know anyone. I arrived in a city called Pereira, where a friend welcomed me. Within 2 weeks of arriving, I found a job in a wholesale tennis store, where I stayed for 8 months. I started to meet people who helped me a lot, I lived good and bad moments. That first year away from home was difficult, as it was my first time away from my family and it was a real challenge.
En octubre de 2019, me fui a vivir a Colombia debido a la situación del país, lo cual fue un verdadero reto para mí al alejarme de mi familia y amigos para comenzar de nuevo en otro país donde no conocía a nadie. Llegué a una ciudad llamada Pereira, donde un amigo me recibió. A las 2 semanas de llegar, encontré un trabajo en una tienda de tenis al por mayor, donde estuve durante 8 meses. Comencé a conocer personas que me ayudaron mucho, viví buenos y malos momentos. Ese primer año lejos de casa fue difícil, ya que fue mi primera vez lejos de mi familia y representó un verdadero reto.
The quarantine arrived in March 2020 and it was very hard to be away from home, locked up in a city where I had practically little time. Months passed and I was presented with the opportunity of a job in Cali, where I currently live with my brother. Although I met good people in Pereira, I never felt as comfortable as I do now. I adapted very quickly to the city, its culture and its very friendly people, which makes me feel at home. However, I would never change the pleasure of being with my family at home. Every year at Christmas I return to Venezuela to spend it with my family, which I feel is very nice and satisfying.
Llegó la cuarentena en marzo de 2020 y fue muy duro estar lejos de casa, encerrada en una ciudad donde prácticamente tenía poco tiempo. Pasaron los meses y se me presentó la oportunidad de un trabajo en Cali, donde vivo actualmente con mi hermano. Aunque conocí buenas personas en Pereira, nunca me sentí tan cómoda como lo estoy ahora. Me adapté muy rápido a la ciudad, su cultura y su gente muy amable, lo que me hace sentir como en casa. Sin embargo, nunca cambiaría el placer de estar con mi familia en mi casa. Cada año en Navidad regreso a Venezuela para pasarla con mi familia, lo cual siento que es muy bonito y satisfactorio.
I am the fourth of five siblings and we are very close. We are only a few years apart; the oldest is 33 and my younger sister is 24. We grew up pretty close and my family is very close. That's why it was hard for me to leave home. Despite being far away, I always have their support in every situation. My parents help me in everything and are always there for me. They are my biggest role model and I feel very loved and lucky to have them.
Soy la cuarta de cinco hermanos y somos muy unidos. Nos llevamos pocos años; la mayor tiene 33 y mi hermana menor 24. Crecimos siendo bastante unidos y mi familia es muy cercana. Por eso fue difícil para mí irme de casa. A pesar de estar lejos, siempre tengo su apoyo en todas las situaciones. Mis padres me ayudan en todo y siempre están ahí para mí. Son mi mayor ejemplo a seguir y me siento muy amada y afortunada de tenerlos.
I studied natural resources. I chose this career among all the ones offered by that university because it caught my attention after doing some research about it. In 2018 I graduated as a technician in that area, which was a very nice stage for me. I met amazing people, learned new things and I really liked it. I didn't get to finish engineering due to the complicated situation that year, but I would like to continue the career at some point or study another discipline. Despite not practicing what I studied, I have worked in different areas while I have been away from home, forcing me to learn new things. I am currently working as a data entry and I like it a lot.
Estudié recursos naturales. Elegí esta carrera entre todas las que ofrecía esa universidad porque me llamó la atención después de investigar un poco sobre ella. En 2018 me gradué como técnico en esa área, que fue una etapa muy bonita para mí. Conocí personas increíbles, aprendí nuevas cosas y me gustó mucho. No llegué a terminar la ingeniería debido a la situación complicada de ese año, pero me gustaría continuar la carrera en algún momento o estudiar otra disciplina. A pesar de no ejercer lo que estudié, he trabajado en distintas áreas mientras he estado lejos de casa, obligándome a aprender cosas nuevas. Actualmente trabajo como data entry y me gusta bastante.
When I arrived in Cali, I worked for a company in the United States that sells parts for Jeep cars. My job was remote and my position was as an administrator. At first, working from home was comfortable and helped me during the pandemic. However, over time I began to experience a lot of work stress and constant migraine and anxiety attacks. I got to the point where I realized that I no longer wanted to go out or be in public places with many people; I preferred to be alone at home all day. This is why I decided to quit my remote job, because it was affecting my personal life and my mental health. Maybe this way of working is not suitable for everyone. Maybe for many it is easy, but in my case it was an experience I would not repeat, even though it seemed very comfortable. It had a big impact on my mental health, which was contradictory, as I had always wanted a comfortable job at home, not realizing that this type of work would affect me in that way.
Cuando llegué a Cali, trabajé para una empresa de Estados Unidos que vende repuestos para autos Jeep. Mi trabajo era remoto y mi cargo era de administradora. Al principio, trabajar desde casa me resultaba cómodo y me ayudó durante la pandemia. Sin embargo, con el tiempo empecé a sufrir mucho estrés laboral y constantes ataques de migraña y ansiedad. Llegué al punto en que me di cuenta de que ya no quería salir ni estar en lugares públicos con muchas personas; prefería estar sola en casa todo el día. Por esto decidí dejar mi trabajo remoto, porque estaba afectando mi vida personal y mi salud mental. Tal vez esta forma de trabajar no sea adecuada para todos. Quizás para muchos sea fácil, pero en mi caso fue una experiencia que no volvería a repetir, a pesar de que parecía muy cómodo. Tuvo un gran impacto en mi salud mental, lo cual fue contradictorio, ya que siempre había querido un trabajo cómodo en casa, sin darme cuenta de que este tipo de trabajo me afectaría de esa manera.
Being away from home and my family has taught me to be a better person and to value more the things and people I love. I have lived through many situations, both good and bad, which have helped me become a more focused person. One of the best experiences I have had in these four years was adopting a cat. She was only a month old when I took her home, and it's the first time I've ever felt such a connection with a pet. It has helped me feel less lonely and calmed my depressions a bit. Her name is Tamy and she is currently two years old. It has been one of the nicest things that have happened to me being away.
Estar lejos de casa y de mi familia me ha enseñado a ser una mejor persona y a valorar más las cosas y personas que amo. He vivido diversas situaciones, tanto buenas como malas, las cuales me han ayudado a convertirme en una persona más centrada. Una de las mejores experiencias que he tenido en estos cuatro años fue adoptar a una gata. Ella tenía solo un mes cuando la llevé a casa, y es la primera vez que siento que conecto tanto con una mascota. Me ha ayudado a sentirme menos sola y a calmar un poco mis depresiones. Se llama Tamy y actualmente tiene dos años. Ha sido una de las cosas más bonitas que me han pasado estando lejos.
One of the hardest things about starting over in another country for me was making friends. It is very difficult for me to consider someone as my friend, but two years ago I met someone who is now one of my best friends. We met in Cali through a mutual acquaintance, and we shared musical tastes, culinary tastes and even similar thoughts. He has become a fundamental part of my life and it gives me a lot of peace to have someone to confide in and talk to while away from home.
Una de las cosas más difíciles al empezar de nuevo en otro país para mí fue hacer amistades. Me resulta muy difícil considerar a alguien como mi amigo, pero hace dos años coincidí con alguien que ahora es uno de mis mejores amigos. Nos conocimos en Cali a través de un conocido en común, y compartimos gustos musicales, culinarios e incluso pensamientos similares. Se ha convertido en una parte fundamental de mi vida y me da mucha paz tener a alguien en quien confiar y hablar estando lejos de mi hogar.
Even though I have been away from my country for four years, I maintain special relationships with some friends. At first, I was afraid to leave and lose so many friendships, but little by little I realized that, even if you are far away, unconditional love is stronger than distance. Even if time goes by, they are always there for me, whether through text messages or calls. Every time I can travel and see my friends that I left back home, they are still the same friends as always. That's what true friendships are all about. I hope everyone in this community will always have the support and real love of true friendships. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read me. I hope I can convey a nice message to everyone and learn more about this Hive community.
A pesar de llevar cuatro años fuera de mi país, mantengo relaciones especiales con algunos amigos. Al principio, me daba miedo irme y perder tantas amistades, pero poco a poco me di cuenta de que, aunque estés lejos, el amor incondicional es más fuerte que la distancia. Aunque pase el tiempo, siempre están para mí, ya sea a través de mensajes de texto o llamadas. Cada vez que puedo viajar y ver a mis amigos que dejé en mi país, siguen siendo los mismos amigos de siempre. De eso se tratan las verdaderas amistades. Espero que todos en esta comunidad tengan siempre el apoyo y el amor real de las verdaderas amistades. Gracias a todos los que se tomaron el tiempo de leerme. Espero poder transmitir un bonito mensaje a todos y aprender más sobre esta comunidad de Hive.
