CREATE NATURALLY - SYSTEMS AND TECHNIQUES DIMENSION OF PROCESS

This post continues with more notes from my forthcoming book on creativity. I have written about creative systems previously but since this series of posts is about the logical/cyclical creative process I will go over some of the info again.
The fourth of the eight dimensions of creative process is about systems & techniques. In this dimension you chose, use and improve them. You also chose what to use to generate creative flow in the moment for your expressions or thoughts. A system is a method of creative expression; a technique is a way to improve the method.

In chapter two of Create Naturally I describe a creative system as: “…the term for all the fundamental methods humans use to express themselves creatively.” I have differentiated systems from the hundred or so creative thinking techniques that have evolved over the course of centuries. Systems are very primary ways of expression and can use the body as a means. Many of the techniques are more structured mental tools developed in the modern era.
A system is how creativity expresses and techniques are usually ways of sophisticating creative thinking. Systems are methods of expression; techniques sophisticate the ability to express. Brainstorming is a technique, writing or dance are systems.

For any creative project you chose a system and often a technique to implement. In addition to using a system for a current project you can chose to study and improve that system for future endeavors. Same is true for thinking techniques. Becoming more proficient enhances creativity and personal growth. By improving and exploring systems we find passions and worthwhile directions to pursue. When improving systems or techniques is a priority growth, mastery and success follows.

Creative systems can also be used in very unique ways to improve your life. One of the exciting aspects of creativity is exploring different ways systems can be used to boost creative awareness and skill.

The Information Age has revealed these techniques to all who desire to understand better ways of being creative in life and work.
