Importance of Contemplation

The last post was about creative flow - when we express or have creative ideas in the now. Those times of creative flow are wonderful and are most effectively followed by contemplation.  In those moments of time when you are creating you are freely flowing. When the creative energy changes and you feel complete contemplation can begin. What has been created? What is it's value? How can I make it better? Pondering questions is important.

The quality of the work must now be considered. Step back. Ask yourself questions. Give the work some space and time. Has the work achieved what you expected or wanted? Will the work solve initial problems that were considered? Will the work entertain an audience? There are many criteria depending on the purpose of the creative efforts. Sometimes we just need to sleep and let our sub-conscious minds contemplate our creative expressions. We can also sleep, disengage and let it be. Other times we may want to more actively contemplate what we have done and consider:

  • Quality
  • Quantity of  ideas or items accomplished or…
  • Content
  • Style
  • Usefulness
  • Tone
  • Form of expression sufficient?
  • Themes
  • Was the creative expression just playful fun and personal fulfillment in the moment? If so there is not much more to be done other than remember the positive emotions of the flow, be grateful and enjoy your creative life!

As always Feel Free to expand upon this list of contemplation considerations.  Also consider Value Guided Creativity as a way of evaluation. Are your highest values in harmony with your current creative expressions? Have they directed or aided the creativity in any way? If appropriate can your values help you as you further refine and manifest this creative expression? Who is the audience for your expression? How does this benefit individuals or groups? What have you learned or experienced about this creative effort? Has the expression been a reflection of your core values? Was the work in harmony with values and personally fulfilling?

Sometimes we may want to move about in the cycle – do a relaxation or centering exercise or additional research. Conscious choice to empower oneself is the guideline. A final question to initiate the next dimension: What can I do now, if needed, to improve this creative expression? It is time to refine and manifest - the seventh dimension.
