I haven't given my attention to the current ongoing World Cup. It can be one of those things, letting go of some activities for the purpose of growth. Maybe I should say I have been watching from another angle because something strange is going on in the World Cup; ‘an invasion’. Don't panic, we are not talking of any man made crisis that can spur up world war.
I have been going through some feeds from my social media handles and one thing remains very common; ‘Footballers are not just in America for the love of the game, they are rather advertising Jesus'. Did you even see this one coming?
A Norwegian fan was noticed expressing his faith and also preaching Jesus. Players caught celebrating and giving tribute to God almighty. Prayer times are becoming very intense before and after matches. To even go further, sometimes both teams come together for a prayer session after every match. It goes beyond who won or who lost
Other updates I got is the fact that these things just go beyond football time to even dressing rooms and where players are camping for the entire world cup event. And the Scriptures is gradually fulfilling itself;
Isaiah 60:1-2 NIV [1]“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. [2]See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.
In the time where it seems thick darkness is winning, The Lord Shines. We have seen how this most watched sports overtime has become a channel for envy, hatred and jealousy. Competition has been completely replaced with rivalry. You can talk of an ungodly lifestyle to add to the list.
It was something I was even thinking some days before the kickoff, ‘if I had an opportunity to be in the world cup, it would be for a preaching reason’. Taking advantage of the crowd to spread Jesus goes a long way. I pray for grace to be a partaker of the next world cup event.
Till then, I still have to thank God for His move already. One of the top ones has been Neymar Jr confessing his faith for Jesus. Legends come, legends go, trophies change hands every four years concerning the World Cup and some yearly when following up with the football calendar.
To conclude, let me add, players are now very concerned about eternity. Believers out there, please continue to pray; don't think you are wasting time. Every prayer time is counting as we are seeing it already. JESUS IS LORD
