What is speed; distance covered ‘d’ with time ‘t’. Let's leave more of the physical: natural or man made explanation here. Of course speed can be a supernatural thing too. I talked about how Elijah supernaturally outran King Ahab and his chariots.

John 6:19-21 NiV When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. [20]But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” [21]Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
The book of John doesn't make reference here to when Peter took that leap of faith but if you are a good bible student, it is easy to relate.
Before even getting there, have you observed Jesus always out did every miracle you heard of by his preceding prophets?. Moses parted the red sea and the people walk on dry land. Our Lord Jesus walked on water.
I can remember when Elisha fed hundred men with a few loave and Jesus fed 5000 men. Moses fed the children of Israel with manner and Jesus till date has become a living manner still feeding globally. Elijah said, by my word, there shall be no rain for 3 and a half years and it was so. On the other hand, Jesus said; ‘break this temple and I will rebuild it in three day’. The summary here is greater works and greater glory.
Heading back to John 6; accepting Jesus into your life opens door for divine speed. The boat before now was dependent on both nature and human effort for navigation. This has also been the fate of many. Waking up early, sleeping late, punching the calculator and it the end there are still deficits.
Psalm 127:1-2 NIV Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.[2]In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.
Of course you have put all your human effort into action but it seems not to work out. This reminds me of another familiar scriptures;
Ecclesiastes 10:15 NIV The toil of fools wearies them; they do not know the way to town.
To conclude, let me add, it can be a sad but a worth considering question; ‘have I been a fool all this while?’. Maybe there is a need to readjust and introduce the master into our boat. The immediately dimensions of God is still at work. God can do exceedingly, abundantly above all you can ever imagined of. Let go of needles pain, introduce Jesus into your boat.
