【意味】 らちが明かないとは、事態が進展しない。問題が解決しない。Rachi ga akanai means situation is not progressing, at a standstill. Problem is not solved.

らちが明かないの「らち（埒）」は、囲いや仕切りのことで、主に馬場の周囲に設けた柵のことをさす。 本来は「物事の決まりがつく」「かたがつく」などの意味で、「埒が明く（らちがあく）」と使われていたが、現代では否定表現の「埒が明かない」と使われることが多い。 「埒」が進展の意味で使われるようになった由来は諸説あり、加茂の競べ馬（くらべうま）で、柵が外されるのを待ちわびた一般客が言った言葉からとする説。 春日大社の祭礼で、金春太夫（こんばるだゆう）が祝詞を読み終わるまで神輿の柵が開かず、一般人が中に入れなかったことからとする説がある。
