Hiii, HIVE friends, I hope you are all very well, and that your loved ones are enjoying good health and many successes, today I come to present an incredible trip I did some years ago, with a cousin and it was my fourth time to reach the Humboldt Peak Glacier and now it is forbidden to go.
how is customary in my cousins, since 2014, every year they organized a trip to the mountains, doing several routes and the most common was the glacier crown of the Humboldt peak, we always went the first days of January, since it was summer in the merideños moors and the chances of rain were almost zero, and that year was to be my last trip, as I did not go back to climb more.
For those who do not know about this route, there are four days of hiking, each day has an average of 6 hours walking at a gentle pace, the first day is from the mucuy (last place on the road) to the coromoto lagoon. Second day from the coromoto lagoon to the green lagoon. Third day from the green lagoon to the Humboldt peak and return. And the fourth day is from the green lagoon to the mucuy, the latter is the longest hike. The whole route has a level of complexity 5 out of 10 in summer and 6 out of 10 in winter, it is necessary to take good food and stoves, there is no need to carry high mountain tents.
Thank God, because life has given us a lot of experience, although we still have many more years of things to learn, but as far as we know, we are in a tropical zone, that is to say that the cold is not as extreme as in other parts, so we try to take few clothes for walking and the necessary to sleep, the sleeping bags, the tent is divided between two and the food, and so we do not suffer for weight or cold.
When we started to climb, we paid the services of the rangers, and we gave the date of departure and arrival, on the first day we got some asian companions, who were also going to climb the Humboldt, we were talking a long time with them who gave us some things and we knew each other well, they were super nice and kind, The second day was very windy and when we arrived at the lagoon and set up tent, my cousin began to feel bad and I had to take care of him, the next day we started walking at 5 am to climb the peak, we climb so early, so that the sun does not come out in front and this is annoying, it is 100% recommended to wear sunglasses, to protect our eyes from the reflection of the ice.
After 5 hours we arrived at the summit, we took pictures and then we descended, by a place where a waterfall is born from the glacier, then we arrived at the tent to rest, the next day, we woke up super early, to start our return hike, it took 4 hours to reach the coromoto lagoon and 5 hours and a half more, until we reached the mucuy, there each one took a bath, then we went to take a cab to the town of tabay and from there we returned to Merida in a bus. The Humboldt peak is located in the Sierra Nevada National Park, at 4,940 m.a.s.l., it is the only glacier in Venezuela, so we have to take good care of it, on the way back we met again with the Asians, and we took a picture for the memory.
Coinciding with people from other parts of the world in your country is great, since you feed your culture, you tend to demonstrate the values and diversity of yours, in the world there should be no borders. Racism, xenophobia and any type of discrimination, the only thing it does is create hatred and conflict between people, cultures, religions, ethnicities, etc. My country Venezuela is a very beautiful place, I invite you to travel, it has incredible unique beaches, beautiful mountains, giant jungles, well, an incalculable variety of places that you can travel and know, and I promise you that you will never regret traveling.
