Does "good night's sleep" really a good one for you? How important is sleep for you? Medical experts said that in maintaining a good health, sleep is a fundamental component to it. But in this busy world, for many, though, sleep is less priority for most people, and it is said that it is the most often the first thing to get neglected or sacrificed.
Not Enough Sleep- Negative Health Consequences
Getting not enough good-quality sleep causes much more harm to the body than simply feeling tired. You will eventually suffer the next day. Some studies says, that the person will likely become more irritable, sometimes depressed, less capable of making decisions, less productive and more likely to get involved in an accident. Even worse, getting poor quality sleep or not enough sleep increases the chances of developing chronic diseases like obesity, heart diseases, or diabetes, and also associated witg an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease.
How Much Sleep We Need
How much sleep we need depends on many different factors, including your age, genetics, and how well you sleep at night. Every individual has unique needs and preferences, official recommendations for sleep duration and broken down by each group:
- Newborn (0-3 mos. old): 14-17hours
- Infants (4-11 mos. old): 12-15 hours
- Toodlers (1-2 y/o): 11-14 hours
- Pre-schoolers (3-5 y/o): 10-13 hours
- School Children (6-13 y/o): 9-11 hours
- Teenagers (14-17 y/o): 8-10 hours
- Adults (18-64 y/o): 7-9 hours

Tips How To Achieved Quality Sleep
- Take a warm bath or shower before bed
- Do moderate exercises several times a week, but do not do strenuous exercise before bedtime
- Create comfortable environment. Keep your bedroom quiet, dark, and a bit cool
- Follow a regular schedule. Try to get up at the same time every morning so as to establish a regular rythm
- Minimize caffiene
- Reduce your use of electronics before bedtime
Good sleep is just as vital to good health as eating healthy foods or getting enough exercise. When we are sleeping, it is not just a time for our body and mind to rest, but in fact, the body is working hard.
