Frontier (2023)

There’s been an area of the Kosciuszko National Park here in Australia I’ve wanted to see for a while & when I heard flowers were still blooming on the mountain I had to drop everything & go check it out before they stopped (this was Feb & they usually stop in Jan) & wouldn’t appear until next Summer

7hrs of driving, and a bit of hiking & I was there on the edge of the cliff surrounded by blooming Alpine Sunrays (Leucochrysum alpinum) - the bet had paid off

For this composition I used the flowers on a rocky outcrop as the foreground with the valley & Mt Sentinel in the distance. I took one shot at blue hour as the sun was setting & another from about half an hour later when the sun had set & the stars came out

There's something so special about flowers blooming in such a harsh alpine environment
