You longed for me, I searched for you
Till finally hope's flicker grew
And in this life we found each other
Bound by love to one another

No gene could make as many wishes come true
As you have for me and I want for you
We have won, we have lost, but always together
We have braved, hand in hand, life's harshest weather

To have a child was your dream come true
You destiny fulfilled as I grew
But to be your child is a gift like no other
It's my privilege to call you my mother

They call you a mother but what does that mean
Does it cover the endless things you have been
You are birthdays and Christmas and home cooked dinners
You're celebrations and joy even when we weren't winners

You are picking up the pieces and starting again
You are wiping away tears and cursing the men
You were my first friend, my best friend, my sister, my brother
You are my teacher, my protector, my guide, my mother

Words can not thank you for all that you've been
And words can't describe the love that I've seen
But I hope if you look with your heart you will see
How grateful mine will forever be.
