This is obviously a card that has very niche uses. In fact, I have never posted for one of these weekly challenges but I happened to see a post on my feed about it and realized that this card actually won a recent battle for me, so I decided to share it.
This was a low mana (12) battle with only odd number cards. That's a tricky one since most of the low mana cards I like to play are 2 mana, but those were obviously not allowed here. I went with the Blinding Reflector in the first spot thinking that if my opponent used magic, I'd be able to do some damage on defense, and if not, I'd have good shield and health to hopefully allow my Uraeus in the back row to get in a few hits and hopefully poison at least one, if not a couple of his cards.
In this case, my opponent kind of went all in on one mana intensive card: the Hydra. I'm not going to lie, when I saw the board, I thought I was cooked. But as it turns out, the Gargoya Scrapper was the difference with the 2 damage he did on his one opportunity.
He used Tarsa which gave him more damage and more health, and I used Lorna to try and buy myself an extra turn or two with my back row damage dealer. I went with 3 1-mana cards that didn't really do much for me as far as inflicting damage, but with Lorna's Divine Shield, would make him hit me twice at each point to take them out. In this particular battle, my strategy paid off.
After Round 1, his Hydra took out my Reflector's Divine Shield and my Reflector hit for 2 damage but lost 2 armor from the thorns. My Uraeus hit his Creeping Ooze for 2 damage and poisoned it, knocking him out. With the 1 speed regained for my team, my Uraeus then hit his Hydra and poisoned him. His thorns took out my Uraeus's Divine Shield.
In Round 3, he healed 3 back up to 9 health and then took out the rest of my Reflector's Shield. My Uraeus hit for 2 damage, losing his armor to the thorns and then my Reflector hit him for 2 damage but lost 2 health to his thorns. Danger time. I'm now down to 4 health on my Reflector with his attack doing 4 damage. One shot. Who will go first? My 3 speed or his?
His did, of course. My Uraeus took out another two but lost 2 health to his thorns and then he healed back up to 6 health and took out my Reflector. Here is where the Scrapper wins the battle. With his 2 speed, he moves up to the first spot and still gets a turn. He takes out 2 health losing his Divine Shield to the thorns in the process. The Hydra then Retaliates and takes out the Scrapper completely. But the damage has been done. With the poison damage, the Hydra goes down to 2 health and my 2 health Uraeus with the higher speed goes first before the Hydra can heal. The thorns take out the Uraeus as well but the 2 extra damage gained from the Scrapper prove to be the difference between winning and losing.
So, while the Void didn't play a role in this battle, the 2 damage from a 1 mana card did. I basically got everything I could have out of the cards I had in play. If he had gone with lower mana and sneak, my Chaos Agent would have come into play. As it was, I didn't need it.
It just goes to show you that there are situations and battles where every single card in the game can end up being the decisive card in the battle. There are some, like the Gargoya Scrapper, that only get used sparingly, but as this battle shows, they can still be the difference between winning and losing.
