Everyone does the Merry Christmas thing so I decided to mix it up and do it the day after. For those of us (parents especially) who feel the stress of Christmas (shopping, buying, wrapping, hiding, cooking, etc...), it's nice when it's finally over and things can start working their way back to normal.
We got a little head-start on the taking-everything-down part this year, as the following little poem can attest.
So, Merry (day after) Christmas! Hope it was special for everyone and we're all looking forward to a Happy New Year!
Down with the Tree
'Twas the day after Christmas when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring except me with my mouse.
The stockings were shredded, gifts everywhere
And Santa, forgotten, his "list" finally bare.
When out by the tree there arose such a clatter
The cat, once again, jumped at bulbs with no ladder.
I hurried to help her get out of the tree,
But not before dog took his shot at a free
Chance to nip at her paws while she was entangled,
Avoiding her claws, he proceeded to mangle
The lights and the branches, the angels and star,
The Mary and Joseph, three men from afar.
The ruckus brought children and wife from abed.
Cries were shouted, tears were cried, as the cat finally fled.
With a cute wagging tail, the pup jumped with glee
No remorse, no regrets, just a proud "Look at me!"
And what could be done to that face void of guile
But shake off the mess and try hard not to smile.
Each season brings memories in its own special way.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good day!
