The flying monkey, also commonly known as saki, lives in the Amazon jungle shared by Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and Peru, and is found mainly in primary forests. They live in monogamous family groups composed of an adult male, a female and several young people. The size of the group varies between two and eight individuals. Young people tend to migrate from the natal group at 7 or 8 years of age. They are often observed jumping, some of these jumps are quite long, especially when fleeing scared, which has given rise to one of their common names, that of "flying", since they seem to fly when observing their fur waving with the wind .
I took the first picture a while ago when I worked as a forester. She is Pu (her nickname), from the Amazonian Colombian jungle.
Near to the Amacayacu river that connect with the Amazon river there is an refuge called 'la casa de los micos', to the help care and monitoring of primate species lead by the north american biologist Sara Bennet. She is a brave woman who has has given part of her life for the preservation of several primate species of the vast region within the Amacayacu natural park. Her role as a defender of life is projected in the care of orphaned animals for reasons such as deforestation of habitat, illegal trafficking, misinformation of some native people who see certain primate species as a food source. One of the great objectives is to introduce these beautiful and threatened species to the jungle by avoiding their hunting as well as allowing them to perform their work as excellent seed dispersers to continue in a perfect natural chain.
Tomé esta fotografía hace un tiempo cuando desempeñaba mi labor como _guardaparque voluntario_en el _parque Nacional Natural Amacayacu. Ella es Pu, una adorable primate hembra posando al frente del lente y ofreciendo su mejor ángulo.
En este lugar internado en la selva existe un refugio, llamado casa de los micos construido por la bióloga Sara Bennet quien ha dado parte de su vida para la preservación de varias especies primates en la basta region del Parque Natural Amacayacu y sus sitios aledaños. Su importante papel como defensora de la vida se ve proyectado en el cuidado de animales huerfanos por causas como la deforestación del habitat, el tráfico ilegal, la desinformación de algunos habitantes nativos que ven ciertas especies primates como fuente de alimento. Uno de los grandes objetivos es el de introducir a estas bellas y amenazadas especies a la selva evintando su caza así como permitiendo que ellos ejecuten su labor como excelentes dispersadores de semillas en una continua cadena de armonía natural.
