I made my life a line upon the sands
of time where cosmic waves upon the shores
eternal lap the edges — wat'ry hands
correcting and consoling who implores
for contrast, that more radical relief
be etchèd in sharp particles of ink
to plagiarize eternity, a thief
of agony — serenity to sink
e'er deeper in the infamy of flesh,
e'er steeper down the cliff of rhetoric,
to settle, 'mid the vagary, enmesh
my purity, a burrowed heretic
emtombèd by the silence of the tide.
I nothing say, but idealistic bide
collapsed into a cove, whose echoes grand
reverberate the timd agency
of man — of chaos-tongue, a noisome strand
slow-lifted in emphatic regency
up-built in sympathetic resonance
to gather humid heat and density
and paint the walls with unseen luminance:
distilling power in propensity
to soar, to seek the highest firmament
which mortal syllables are capable
of rising to — the dawning veil is rent
by sentiment elusive, shapable
in aspiration's skyward vectoring:
an arrow crowned with flame over the sea
in perfect arc to launch — and lingering
the smoke of its departure — symmetry
of clouds of ignorance gently dispelled
by sandy line, the oceanic quelled.
