If you've been following Akash Network, the decentralized cloud computing project that rents out spare GPU power for AI workloads, here's some drama worth knowing about: it might be leaving its own blockchain home.
Akash currently runs on Cosmos, the same tech family as chains like Osmosis and Celestia. But last October, founder Greg Osuri announced they're shopping around for a new chain to call home. His complaint? Cosmos apparently has "broken economic security" and just isn't scalable enough for the AI compute boom Akash is chasing.
More than 15 blockchains reportedly pitched to be Akash's new base, and Solana has emerged as the frontrunner thanks to its speed and growing AI-friendly ecosystem. Things got spicier in April when Osuri publicly called out Cosmos for changing the license on a key piece of software, blocking commercial use without paying up. He didn't hold back, calling the terms "hostile."
So what happens now?
Akash says the move will be community-driven and rolled out gradually over about a year to avoid breaking things for existing users. Problem is, there's still no official vote, no published technical plan, and no firm date. For a project planning to essentially rebuild its foundation, that's a lot of "trust us, it'll be fine."
Worth watching if you hold AKT or just like blockchain soap operas.
