Marshmello has to be one of the greatest EDM producers of all time. His songs have played directly to my soul and heart. He brought me into the EDM scene with his song Alone during my divorce, repressed memory recall and loss of everything but my children. It was a dark time in my life and a friend of mine played me this song and said it reminded him of me. The music bubbly and happy. The message of being alone and not knowing where to call home. I made it through that time with a heavy heart but a small light that grew.
I soon discovered that I was not the only fan in my family. My children loved Marshmello. "Alone" happened to be my youngest, my soul's, favorite song. I believe it has helped him through the difficult time of watching his family fall apart. Ironically the song "Alone" has made him and I not feel alone. They had heard his music on Youtube videos and Roblox. In that painful year, I saw Marshmello 3 times. Before his performance at Park City Live in 2017 my middle child, I refer to as my heart, asked: "Why can't we go see Marshmello". I knew the reason why he couldn't, but a thought came to my mind. That thought "Why isn't there a place where children can go enjoy the music they love". This sparked an idea. Create raves for children, make it safe and use the platform to raise money for charity. A win, win, win for everyone involved. Thus Electric Kids Dance Parties was born.
So far we have only had one event a Kid's EDM Stage at the Nebo Music Festival. It was a blast. For 12 hours we had children listening and dancing to local DJs. The kids and parents loved it. We have been invited to return for 2018, which is amazing and we are honored for the invite and will be working toward building that stage, tent and show soon. What we really want to achieve is a fundraiser put on fully by EKD.
It was announced that Marshmello would be performing at Park City Live again on January 21st. I decided this was our opportunity to reach out and see about getting him to play a set for the children of Salt Lake City. We could not think of a better way to start EKD off on the right foot. We decided that we should record these children and post the video compilation.
We need your help getting the word out. Use the hashtag #MelloPlayEKD. Post about how your children love Marshmello. Share the video below. If you happen to have a way of reaching out to Marshemello or anyone on his team. Please, Please do so. We can use all the help we can get. Thank you in advance. I know this would make 2018 one of the best years ever for not only my six children, but many more.
