Lucky for me, I can walk up to a reputable, and fair, Local Coin Shop, in less than 30 minutes. If one is looking for a great deal on anything, they need to be the first to see it. Good deals don't last long. Several times, I have gone back, ten minutes, later and the item was sold.
Scratch-n-Dent, Miss-Handled, Junk-Silver etc... are some of my favorites. They can be picked up at a cheap or inexpensive price. A 1996 American Silver Eagle BU can go for $100+ (USD). But once impaired, boom, major price drop! "Nice coin, may I see it, the value of your coin is, one hundred, whoops, er, ah, thirty dollars."
I like to touch, handle and feel coins and since these are already mishandled or circulated, one, really cannot hurt them. The Dealer, must have had fifty different impaired, ASEs, so I focus on the key dates, that are still in AU (almost, about uncirculated) condition. The price is usually, only a few dollars, over spot or melt price. Less than a year ago, those "few dollars" have gone from $2 to $5, as the premiums, for Silver & Gold, has skyrocketed. Today, all, pre-1964 US Junk-Silver or Constitutional-Silver Coins, are over fifty years old. And some be over a hundred years old.
It's still not too late to start stacking. But the Silver Train is moving. Thanks for looking.
