I suppose it is actually a pretty good time to bring new people into Hive because the "earn rewards" vector is less relevant than ever. If you sell someone on the idea of joining Hive now, the chances that they will be disappointed by the rewards is near zero... as opposed to someone who bought in when the token was $1.00 and has experienced nothing but disappointment.
