In a couple of days it will officially be fall. I don't know where this year has gone, but we're already 3/4 of the way through it!
Of course, I have no idea what the 4th quarter holds — my crystal ball seems to be permanently broken — but the way 2026 has turned out so far makes me very grateful that I set myself quite modest goals for the year.
I guess it is a good thing that I have always viewed Hive as a very long term proposition. I don't have all that much time available for for social media and blogging, so I didn't ever really look at Hive as an actual "income opportunity." This is primarily a diversion that allows me to experiment with crypto, on a very small scale, while also pursuing a chance to practice and improve my writing.
It got me to thinking about the excuse I have sometimes heard, that this community is "just not worth it." Which is a rather strange thing to say, considering that most legacy social media doesn't actually pay unless you're among the elite influencers who create for a living.
Brings to mind something I heard here many years ago: Someone asking "What's in YOUR Facebook wallet, then?
And while I know that Meta/Facebook has started some kind of "revenue sharing" gig with certain qualifying creators, the vast majority are basically giving away their talents for free.
But getting back to the point at hand, I guess I have my own definition of "worthwhile," and the closest I can come to some kind of truth is to say that anything above zero makes it "worthwhile."
But money isn't really the point, because how do you put a value on things like community, even if that community has a different worldview from your own.
Sometime the greatest thing we can do for ourselves is to examine our own motivations, as they might stand alone and to the side of majority Opinion.
Anyway, I remind myself that if you leave a bucket under a slowly dripping faucet, it will eventually fill up. One drop at a time.
And I am pretty grateful for all the small "drops" I have around are here! Eventually... they might even fill my bucket!
