Ampalaya or Bitter Gourd is widely used as herbal remedy to lower blood sugars for diabetic patients. It is mostly cultivated although wild forms can be found.
Wild bitter gourd is very small, about 2 to 4 centimeters long compared to the cultivated ones seen in the market. Cultivated and wild bitter gourd are both edible. In fact, the young leaves can also be eaten. But the cultivated ones are the most commonly used.
