Help bitcoin recover more quickly!

It seems to me that as crypto enthusiasts we should be doing whatever we can to try and secure bitcoin's future. BIP 148 will split the Bitcoin blockchain into two: the legacy blockchain we have now and a new and improved BIP blockchain. Once the BIP blockchain has a high enough percentage of total bitcoin nodes using it, a reorganisation of the legacy chain will happen. In other words the legacy chain will be integrated into the new BIP chain, ending the Bitcoin split and a lot of the uncertainty surrounding Bitcoin.

BIP 148 is happening, and it is causing a lot of fear in people. This fear is, in my opinion, unwarranted because when BIP 148 is fully operational and the legacy chain has been reorganised, we will end up with a bitcoin service that has faster transaction times and cheaper transaction fees.

What can I do to speed up this process?

Well first and formost email every single Bitcoin related service you use and ask them if they will be using BIP 148 (even if you already know the answer) and if they say they won't, tell them that if that is the case then you won't be using their service! Let companies know that BIP 148 is a deal breaker for you and that you won't be dealing with people who aren't supporting BIP 148. This helps spread the word to the companies and exchanges that it is important upgrade. The added bonus to this is less unaware users will not end up making mistakes, remember not everybody knows about or understands what is happening with Bitcoin!

Secondly, you should create your own BIP 148 node to interact with the new blockchain and encourage your friends and colleagues to do the same! This will increase the amount of BIP 148 nodes.

These two things are important because the faster we can get a BIP 148 consensus the quicker the legacy chain will be reorganised into the BIP chain. This would mean less time for Bitcoin uncertainty and a faster recovery!

Conclusion

If you believe in Bitcoin as much as I do then you probably want to see Bitcoin do as well as possible. To prepare for August the first it is VERY important you get all your bitcoins off of exchanges and online wallets and into either Cold storage or Hardware wallets, if you actually intend to spend your Bitcoin during the fork, it is crucial that you set up both a legacy and BIP bitcoin node! If you don't you risk losing Bitcoin! A full guide on how to secure your bitcoin can be found here! If we can get a fast BIP node consensus nice and fast then we can all move on and stop stressing.

Happy Trading
