I really like Steemit, it's a platform I believe in strongly and I think it has a very bright future ahead of it. It isn't perfect though, it is in beta so I'm sure many features are still to be added. Here are some things I'd really like to see:
Profile
I think if Steemit is to compete with the likes of Facebook, a Steemit Profile page is needed. We should have the ability to set up and customise a profile page for people to view.
Friends list
Following people is great, but a friends list would be another great feature. Having a differentiation between following somebody's content and having somebody on a friends list is important if Steemit is to evolve from a blogging platform to a full blown social media platform.
Messaging
Everything from private messaging to public chats are important. Currently we have to rely on third party services like Steemitchat, discord, slack or telegram to achieve this and it would be nice to just be able to chat directly from the platform.
Steemit app
We really need an official Steemit mobile app, there are currently third party services on iOS and Android such as eSTEEM, but they don't work well. An official app is nessessary to grow the platform to new heights!
Live Streeming
Live streaming sound or video is a feature I think is super important. I wouldn't want these to clutter up the normal Steem feed, but having either a seperate tab or notifications to followers that you are going live would be great! This would be a great situation in conjunction with the official Steemit app, as live streaming from mobile would essentially contend with Telescope.
Timed Posts
Currently if we want to delay the posting of content, we have to resort to services like Streemian, not the biggest problem, but I always like features to be native to a platform instead of having to resort to using other services.
Automatic Posting to other platforms
Again something you currently have to resort to other services to achieve, it would be nice if you could simply link your Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and other platforms to Steemit and auto post to them when you write on Steemit. Not the biggest deal, but would be convenient.
2FA or hardware wallet support
Although I haven't read about a single instance of Steem or SBD theft, better safe than sorry.
Interest paid in savings account
I have been informed that there used to be Interest paid on Steem that was locked away. I don't know if this is even still even remotely sustainable but it would be nice if Steem or SBD put into the savings account actually gained a small amount of interest. I wouldn't use this feature because I always power up but anything that gives people an incentive to hold Steem or SBD over dumping gets my vote! I want the price of Steem to increase over time.
A seperate tab for Posting Videos
I know I'm not the only one who is getting tired of posts containing nothing but an embedded video. I would like to see a seperate section of Steemit where people can upload videos and earn from it. I would like the blog section to be for blogs and articles only.
A rework of the "promoted" section
It was a good idea, but it doesn't work out in the end. Why would you sink 200+ SBD into promoting your post when you can use the paid upvote services for guaranteed success. I would like to see a rework of the system where instead of paying upfront to promote content, you pay out of your post earnings. If your post doesn't earn more than you pledge then you earn nothing on your post.
Automatic Footer/Signature
Okay, behold the gold meda first-world problem of the year award here, but having to manually insert footers and signatures is kinda tedious, especially if writing on a phone while out. The ability to save Footers would be great.
non case sensitive tags
Maybe the silver medal for first word problem of the year, but typing out your tags and getting an error message only to find that your computer has taken it upon itself to capitalise something can be quite irritating. It's 2017, can tags be non case sensitive please!
Flagging
Flagging shouldn't cost voting power, I must of wasted 30 upvotes this month on flagging Spammers. I shouldn't be penalised for downvoting people who repost the same "Steemit is a scam" post 5 times a day.
Incentives for recruiting
No I don't want to see Steemit turn into a pyramid scheme, but incentivising Steemians to spread the word could help the community as a whole. Maybe something as simple as 2-5 Steem for free or 10% cost reduction on your next promoted post. I definately don't want to see people earn a percentage of what the referrals earn but just a small one time incentive to grow our already amazing community could help.
I am spending a lot of time on Steemit, I want it to do well and I trust that the developers will do an amazing job on whatever they plan to add. These are things I would like to see added (I'm not so bothered about the last one, it was just a thought), but let me know what you would like to see!
