IT WAS THEM, OR ME
An open apology to a truckers wife.
by Trucker Tim (CryptoTim)
I woke up holding you in my arms this morning. It's my favorite place to be. It was supposed to be a short day, only 300 miles, for me. I left your side with a full stomach, your kiss on my lips, and I smile on my face. I joke and say I'll be right back. Everything was going good. I was making good time. I loaded my truck without a problem. It seemed like it would be a good day. I left the shipper and headed toward the interstate. I had been following this school bus for about 15 miles of kids trying to get me to blow my horn again. THEN IT HAPPENED…
It was those kids…
Or it was me.
A car came up too fast not paying attention. His lane had come to a stop. He swerve in front of the bus. The bus driver slammed on brakes to stop. I didn't have time to choose another way. It was those kids, or me.
My truck came to a stop in a ditch while laying on it's side. I had a ruptured spleen, and a ruptured kidney. I had broken ribs of which one punctured a lung. I passed before the ambulance could get there.
It was those kids, or me.
If I'd chosen the kids I'd still be alive, but my life flashed before my eyes. I saw our kids, and grandkids. I also saw you. You know why I chose what I did. It had to be ME.
Now to apologize, my loving wife. I won't be home tonight. Someone got in too big of a hurry and I lost my life.
I'm sorry for leaving you alone. I will love you for eternity.
Signed,
Your loving husband
p.s.
Goodbye
And now a serious message to those who aren't truckers. Please be careful around trucks. It may come down to a trucker choosing to die to keep you alive.
