The Christmas holidays are here and that can only mean one thing. I need to find things to do for several weeks until I go back to work.
Today's (23rd Dec) idea was taking the out of date bag of carrots from the fridge and giving them to someone that would appreciate them. Luckily somebody that loves carrots live nearby.
On the West edge of Norwich UK is the UEA, (University of East Anglia) and surrounding that is allotments, parks, public footpaths, and fields. And in these particular fields are ponies and donkeys.
When I first approached the group I was pretty much ignored, giving me the chance to get a nice shot of the group.
That quickly changed as soon as they heard the bag rustling in my pocket. Hey look! Instantly best friends! This one came over to show me their nice winter coat.
8.5/10, adorable.
As soon as food was involved things got a little bit scrappy...
This guy being the biggest of the group was definitely the gang-leader. When he approached me everyone else scattered.
He was a proper rough git. The ponies were more than happy to be petted, but as soon as this one had eaten his carrot he would headbutt my hand away from him and try to get his nose in my pockets.
2/10, very rude.
Since taking these pictures I have been informed this is a dangerous way of feeding equines. Open hand feeding stops them from accidentally biting you
After running out of carrots I walked to the other side of the field and found this interesting foot path. It's has a desire path built into it. A phenomenon that has always fascinated me, so to see designers anticipating human behaviour and implementing it in their design is exciting.
Once on the other side of the field I found more ponies including this chap that seemed to be splashed with mud!
On closer inspection it was actually markings on his fur. Like a pony dalmatian.
8/10, such a poser.
Next door to them was the friendliest pony of the lot. They were waiting by the fence before I had even walked over.
9.5/10, very polite and friendly.
After this I started walking back home through the most typically British trail I've ever seen.
A much needed walk before the holiday chaos.
