The sun had gone down too fast and the rocky hill to the west left a long shadow that was about to cover Ethan. He had woken up not long ago and could not remember anything, but the island gave him a feeling of sadness and anxiety. To the north, a white mist or rain seemed to be rolling in. The wind was becoming more agitated. Was it scared?
The waves rolled deeper into the sand each time they came. Soon, he thought, they would cover the entire island and only the rocky hill to the west would be safe, so he got up and trudged while feeling the salty wind get colder and hit his face in warning.
Hide, hide, it said, so he grabbed his left rib that seemed to be broken and walked faster toward the hill. As he walked, he tried to remember, but as he felt inside his head, only pain came out and he suddenly became dizzy and his vision started to fade to black.
He hurried his steps. He needed to be on the hill. But as he neared it, a disguised stone coming out from the sand tripped him and he fell head-first onto another rock.
He would never wake up.
FIN
I had always wanted to write a story with an anticlimactic ending like this, where the main character simply and suddenly dies mid-climax. And here we go, it was nice, hope you enjoyed it.
It's actually a similar death to another character in my story Skye.
