"Choosing a line of aesthetic expression located in high contrast, in the antithetic duality of light/shadow, as a generator of permanent tension, and playing with the depth of field and focus adjustment - which determine the sharp and the more faded areas - as well as accentuated variations of luminosity level, Paulo Abrantes reaches, in his photographs, a certain loaded equilibrium, which is not, however, aggressiveness, a violent clash or showy effect, resulting rather in a strong sensorial presence and powerful tactile values.”
