Maybe you can also have a container above them to drip some moisture so that the soil would not dry-out.

My brother sells these vermicast tea as he calls it, the water from a soaked vermiculture casts (earthworm poop) and I think it is really a good thing to use for such plants especially fruit-bearing plants. :)
