Greetings,
Visiting Agra without seeing the iconic Agra Fort? That’s nearly impossible! Agra is a city rich in history, known not only for the Taj Mahal but also for the grandeur of Agra Fort. Built by Emperor Akbar in 1565, this fort stands as one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture, holding an immense historical significance.
The fort’s design is semi-circular, with towering red sandstone walls that reach around 70 feet in height and extend for approximately 2.5 kilometers. Four main gates offer entry into this fortified structure, with the Delhi Gate and Lahore Gate (also known as the Amar Singh Gate) standing out as the most significant.
We recently took a trip to Agra and, having already visited the Taj Mahal three times, decided to explore Agra Fort this time. The entry ticket cost us Rs. 50 (for Indian citizens), and as we stepped inside, the fort immediately felt ‘larger than life '!
Walking through its grand halls, detailed walls, and vast courtyards, it was as if we were traveling back in time, surrounded by the luxury and legacy of the Mughal empire.
The Diwan-e-Aam and Diwan-e-Khas, with their intricate designs, showcased the opulent lifestyle of the Mughals. Each corner of the fort told a story,
Agra Fort was the main home of the Mughal emperors until 1638, when they moved the capital to Delhi. Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal, was later imprisoned here by his son Aurangzeb. In his last days, Shah Jahan stayed in a part of the fort called the Musamman Burj. The balcony here is famous because it’s where Shah Jahan would look out at the Taj Mahal, remembering his late wife.
Agra Fort, with its towering walls and timeless charm, is a living testament to the grandeur of Mughal history.Exploring it was like going through the pages of an old book, with each part showing the beauty and wonders of an ancient time.
This journey through Agra Fort has become an unforgettable memory, leaving us in awe of the historical splendor that it preserves to this days.
