"Watch out for the man who's destined toward us."... That's what I called out to my friend, who was at the steering wheel, staring at the road. I was very surprised, as this is not the first time that a driver has been alerted to a sudden appearance in front of the car.
I also noticed that one of the friends lowers the volume of the radio or the music if there are trucks running next to him and he is afraid of surprising them. And I always wondered what the relationship of the ear to the eyes.
I often heard phrases such as "I didn't mind.. He appeared to me from under the ground.. Suddenly I found him in front of the car." It is strange that you hear those who were accompanied by the victim say that they pointed to the driver warning him and yelled at him..

Many questions kept in my mind a lot, and I put answers to them from East and West, until I read a book “Invisible Gorrilla” written by the famous professors of psychology at Harvard University Christopher Chabris and Daniel Simon And who talked about their famous experience.

In this experiment conducted by Harvard University under the leadership of the two famous professors in 1999, a short film was recorded for two teams playing basketball and one of them wore white clothes.. It was shown to a large number of students and asked them to count how many passes made by the white team players and how many passes to the players of the other team.

After the film was shown, the students were asked, “Who among you saw the gorilla?” Where the researchers had added clips of a gorilla running on the field in the middle of the players, appearing for 30 seconds.. The surprise was that 50% of those who watched the movie had not seen this gorilla at all.. the students who sat in front of the screen and was very alert and accurate, counting the number of passes. They did not notice at all this gorilla, even though it was in the midst of these players..

The researchers also monitored the eye movement of the participants in the experiment and found that those who noticed the gorilla and those who did not see it looked at the gorilla for at least a second, and this means that the two parties actually looked at the gorilla, but the one who actually realized its existence was half.

This experiment was repeated in different conditions and with different variations, and the results were similar. This means that when you focus on something..or limit your attention to a specific matter..you become captivated so you do not see the rest of the characters that may appear in front of you..focus makes you carefully observe the usual in these circumstances, but you will not see the surprise.

In psychology, this is called the illusion of attention, and it is an illusion that casts many shadows on our confidence and judgments based on sight and hearing. We may look and not see, and we may extend our ears and not hear.

And beware, my friend, hundreds of gorillas pass in front of us and we do not see them.
