For the last couple of days we have seen the value of Bitcoin decline to the levels of around $2000 USD, from a high of almost $2800 USD and this would've made a lot of people panic. They'd be having second thoughts about whether to sell it and get their money out or just hold on to it for a few more months and then decide what they want to do.
But it's not all bad news for Bitcoin and the crypto world. As per the new stats released by Google, Bitcoin has been ranked as the 5th most searched word. And not just Bitcoin, Ether is ranked 18th on the search chart. I know some people will pass it off as not a big deal but I'll try and explain why we should be happy about this new result.
Firstly, people only try and search about things that they don't know about or that they have limited knowledge of. Since Bitcoin is now showing as 5th most searched item on Google, it means people who had no knowledge about it are now becoming aware. And this will help them to discover it's amazing features, such as it's fast processing of payments and it's ability to make payments anonymously.
Another thing that came out of this result was that Monday is the most popular day of the week for searches of Bitcoin on Google. Apparently on Monday 22nd of May, Bitcoin's popularity reached it peak. I think it may also explain the heavy fall in the price of Bitcoin in the days after May 22nd. May be a lot of people started to buy the bitcoin after their search and it pumped up the price to almost $2800 USD, which made certain big dealers pull out their money to make a really good profit on their Bitcoin holdings. But I'm not suggesting that's truely the case.
With the number of people searching for Bitcoin on the internet increasing, some of them if not most, would look at buying Bitcoin as an investment. And as we know with the advancement in technology in the latter parts of the last century, people started to use cashless transactions (debit & credit card) instead of cash. In my opinion, same is going to happen with Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies. And it's not just my guess, I'm seeing a big increase in the no. of people who want to make payments using crypto currencies. Recenty, thanks to @ausbitbank, I have come across a new site (www.livingroomofsatoshi.com/) here in Australia, that allows you to pay your bills using a variety of cryptocurrencies. How cool is that? And it's just the starting, there'd be a lot of more similar sites in the next few years.
Now as the popularity of Bitcoin increases, there'd be a lot of places available for the people across the globe to make their payments with Bitcoin and other alt coins. And because of this wide spread reach, the Bitcoin wallet you'd possess would never be sitting idle. You'll get the chance to use it all the time. And it'll all be because of the search queries that people do on Google.
So to wrap it up, it's just the begining. As it happened with the internet when that just started, it took almost 10-15 years before it reached the mass audience and now we can't even live a day without it. Similarly, that day is not far when we'll all be talking about Crypto-Currencies. And that day is not too far ahead.
