Traveling is my greatest passion in life. When I was young I tried to memorize every country and wondered what life was like for kids growing up in Namibia or Argentina or Switzerland. So many different lives, perceptions and yet similar wants and needs. I watched tons of youtube travelers backpacking around and having awesome experience and After I'd seen enough I decided I could do it as well. I waited for a break from work and got my first taste of solo travel (Thailand) and after that experience I knew there was no return to normalcy. I knew that I wanted to travel far and often, no matter the cost.
Well this week in Guatemala has reminded me of the costs, namely health. On Wednesday night everything was fine, chilling with friends, watching a local band preform, life was grand. Waking up Thursday morning was a different story, as I wandered down the path to the lake front restaurant I realized I had zero appetite. Even the thought of tipico (traditional Guatemalan breakfast of rice, eggs, beans) made me start to feel queasy. I grabbed a 1.5 liter water bottle and knew that I was in for a rough one. Even though I'd slept for about 9 hours the previous night, I knew that sleep and water were the only two things that would help my body fight this battle. I tossed and turned, but did sleep most of the night until about 9pm that evening. Just enough time to wake up, puke, get some more water and go back to sleep. When all was said and done I'd estimate that I slept for about 30 hours. I dont remember much of my dreams, but I do remember thinking a lot about outer space and what it would look like if it fit inside of a bedroom.
A whole day gone, just like that. A worthy price to pay for living my dreams.
Here's to better health and more adventures.
