Some of you may be well aware that South Africa is going through one of it's trying periods again regarding the electricity supply. Not such a huge problem these days as we have a generator that covers the basics, but not everyone is so lucky.

Our electricity is interrupted and we call it load shedding. basically the Power Utility cuts the electricity supply to various places around the country to ease the pressure on the main grid. We receive time tables which sometimes work informing us when these interruptions will happen. These change frequently though as it depends on what level of load shedding you are on. There are 7 different levels, one being very little interruption sand 7 being a blackout across the entire country. We were on a level 6 a few days ago and have fluctuated betweemn level 2 and 4 since then.

Zimbabwe receives electricity from South Africa even though they have out standing debts. They don't receive the load shedding the rest of South Africa has. Over the last few days certain parts of Zimbabwe has though which is odd. They had experienced this in the past as well but no one put two and two together at the time. I think any sane person would have followed up on this as it isn't rocket science. Zimbabwe had asked Eskom (power utility) to assist them with repairing the cables after heavy rains had interfered with their supply. These are the cables that run under the river and how the whole story was uncovered. The new people running the supply in Zimbabwe had no idea either otherwise they wouldn't have asked.
Why would Zimbabwe also have their power cut when the Limpopo region in South Africa has theirs cut? The sneaky bastards had 10 illegal connections linked on South Africas side running under the Limpopo River into Zimbabwe and has been going for at least the last 15 years. Friendly neighbours alright and who allowed this to happen?
The Zimbabwe government would have known about this and surely someone in the South African Government would have known as well. This is just too big for a handful of people to know about and it makes sense where the missing electricity has been disappearing too. South Africa has been struggling to make ends meet with current demand let alone powering another country for free.
The electricity bills for everyone in South Africa have sky rocketed over the last 10 years with annual increases in the norm of around 10 percent. The Utility provider was asking for a 20 percent year on year increase over 5 years at one point. I doubt the prices will come down now that they know where the $ Millions of Dollars of electricity has gone and it has become a joke here right now as what else can you do but laugh at the so called friendly neighbours.
Nearly half of Zimbabwes country is powered up by these illegal connections and I hope they pull the plug on this immediately. They don't call it deepest, darkest Africa for nothing. I find it funny that the board of Eskom has now gone and been replaced and now these things are being found out. The problems will be fixed as straight answers are now being answered by people who seem to know what they are doing. The previous bunch of Government cronies would never have exposed this as they were most likely in on the whole thing and getting some financial rewards.
What I find funny is that Zimbabwe has been bitching about the load shedding that they experience as they receive no warning when it will happen. Obviously they don't as the people in charge have no clue when it is going to happen either as it changes very quickly from a level 1 to a level 4 and they wouldn't know at all. If it is free though you can't complain and I bet you the Zimbabwean people have been paying for their electricity as well so where is all that money now?
